JUUL Labs was founded with the goal of improving the lives of the world's one billion adult smokers by providing them with an easy to use vapor alternative to combustible cigarettes, containing a similar level of nicotine to make switching as easy as possible.

What is a JUUL Device?

JUUL uses an intelligent heating mechanism that creates an aerosol and is engineered to minimize combustion.

JUUL is a closed system vapor product and is not designed to be refillable.

JUUL is rechargeable via a USB port.

What are JUULpods?

JUULpods are the cartridges that click into the top of the JUUL Device.

JUULpods contain a proprietary salt-based nictonine e-liquid formula, which is mixed under strict quality-controlled processes, and is intended to provide a satisfying alternative to cigarettes for adult smokers.

What is an E-liquid?

An e-liquid is the fluid used in vapor products to create the actual vapor.

What is Vapor?

Vapor is the aerosol that is generated when an e-liquid is heated.

JUULpods Ingredients

Through years of research, JUUL Labs developed its proprietary nicotine-containing e-liquid formulation, which is mixed under strict quality controlled processes utilizing industry leading U.S. partners.


We use pharmaceutical grade nicotine from tobacco plants.

Benzoic Acid

Benzoic acid is an ingredient that when combined with nicotine as part of our nicotine salts formulation, helps provide cigarette-like satisfaction.

Propylene Glycol and Glycerine

Propylene glycol and glycerine are clear liquids that are used to create a visible vapor. A majority of e-liquids in the market contain propylene glycol.


JUULpods flavors consist of both natural and artificial flavor ingredients which provide the specific taste profile for each flavor.

What materials make up the JUUL Device and the JUULpods?

The JUUL Device aluminum shell encases a lithium-ion battery, a circuit board and a pressure sensor, all separate from the vapor path and liquid.

JUULpods are made with heat resistant, food-grade plastics, and contain a stainless steel vapor path, an industry standard silica wick, and nichrome coil heater. The liquid in the JUULpods DOES NOT contain THC, any products derived from cannabis or vitamin E compounds like those found in some cannabis-related products.

Device Standards

Battery Standards

We test for reliability and operational consistency in both individual battery packs and at the larger systems level, including impact and drop testing as well as forced failure, all of which meet international safety standards, such as IEC 62133, UL 1642, and IEC 60335.

Electrical Testing Standards

We test for electromagnetic compatibility, meeting or exceeding requirements for both radiating energy and safely absorbing it (immunity).

Radiated Emissions and Immunity Testing and Standards

We test for and meet international radiated emission, immunity and safety standards, like CISPR 22, IEC 60335, and IEC 61000-4-2/3/4/5/6/8/11.

Hardware Reliability Standards

We routinely conduct hardware tests for reliability and safety in real-world scenarios, such as impact and drop testing.

We follow and conform to California Proposition 65 and the European Union’s RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) regarding the use of hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment.

Ingredient Standards

We employ a safety evaluation and advisory committee to review all materials in our products.

We have strict policies governing the amount of any chemical allowed in our products.

We routinely perform toxicology testing to ensure no chemical in our products exceeds those established policies.

Vapor Testing Standards

We routinely test our vapor to ensure that it meets our strict working standards.

We deploy tasting panels of trained users to ensure consistent flavor from batch to batch.

We perform toxicology testing on both the e-liquid and the resulting vapor following its vaporization through our heating products.

Supplier Controls Through Supply Chain

We maintain agreements with our suppliers requiring strict and precise testing on the component products they supply to our manufacturing partners.

We manage a program of supplier visits and recurring audits of their factories, including systems and practices in place for maintaining quality.

We maintain an approved vendor list to ensure only those companies that meet our quality standards are allowed to enter our supply chain system.

We maintain agreements with our finished-goods suppliers requiring strict adherence to our standards of quality.
